The Butler/Warren County SHRM Education Committee will work in several areas to involve the chapter and its individual members in school-to-work and career development of students in Butler/Warren County. The Committee has utilized the SHRM Foundation's publication BECOMING WORKFORCE READY: Educating Today's Students for Tomorrow's Workplace as a reference for the chapter's program. One of the initial activities will be to review the goals and objectives of the Butler/Warren County schools, especially as they relate to career development/school-to-work. Each of the Butler/Warren County Schools has or is in the process of developing its Continuous Improvement Plan (CIP). These can easily be reviewed by Committee members to determine the school's direction. The Committee will also develop a means to assess Butler/Warren County Society for Human Resource Management (BWSHRM) members to determine what they feel are the skills needed in the workplace. The Committee knows from experience that the major area that can be addressed directly by the Chapter members are "employability skills." Through individual member and chapter efforts, Butler/Warren County schools may be assisted in this area. The assessment, however, will provide information that the chapter may use to assist the schools. The Committee reviewed the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) Mission Statement, with minor modifications, was appropriate to the Butler/Warren County Chapter. Therefore, the BWSHRM Education Committee Mission is as follows: To enhance the education of kindergarten through twelfth grade students by encouraging Butler/Warren County Society for Human Resource Management members to contribute their time and resources to local activities in cooperation and collaboration with schools in Butler/Warren County. It is recognized that the mission statement speaks to improving the preparation of Butler County students so they may be prepared for assuming their place as productive citizens. The Committee developed Goals that will guide the efforts of the Chapter.
From the goals, specific, measurable objectives will be developed by the Committee. These will be developed after reviewing the schools' goals and objectives and the assessment of skill needs. Current activities of BWSHRM members related to career development/school-to-work will be determined and used as a resource for the Chapter. The education Committee will continue to develop the Chapter's program. This may include working in concert with other organizations. Some of these are regional SHRM Chapters (GCHRA, MVHRA, and SHRMA), school-to-work organizations (Butler-Warren STW and Ohio Region 5 STW), the Chambers of Commerce of Butler/Warren County, Junior Achievement, Rotary Clubs, and other organizations. It is the intent of the Committee that Butler/Warren County SHRM be a leader in the preparation of students for their careers, that this be accomplished in an efficient and effective manner. Collaboration and cooperation with other organizations will provide the means of achieving the best results.
