PHR / SPHR / GPHR Certification is an Essential Part of any HR Professional’s Daily Wardrobe
PURPOSE OF CERTIFICATION: Certification is an essential tool for maintaining high professional standards. It demonstrates an HR Professional’s mastery of the HR Body of Knowledge and acceptance of the personal challenge to stay current concerning new developments in the human resources field. To be effective in their jobs, HR Professionals must know how to deal effectively with human resource strategic planning, international competition, management staffing, family and social issues affecting the workplace, employee rights, and emerging human resource issues. Certification provides:
- National recognition of professional achievement
- An aid to career advancement
- A visual reminder to peers and coworkers of professional achievement through the use of PHR, SPHR, or GPHR designation on business correspondence and by display of the certificate.
THE EXAMINATIONS: Examinations are administered through the Human Resources Certification Institute (HRCI). Each certification candidate must determine which examination is appropriate for his/her based upon years of HR experience and the HR Professional’s type of work. CERTIFICATION PREPARATION COURSES: Click HERE for a list of resources for HR Professionals interested in attending a prep course prior to taking a certification exam. Inclusion on the list is not an endorsement by the Ohio State Council of SHRM. Questions concerning the preparation courses should be directed to the respective organizations.
TUITION ASSISTANCE: Many of the certification examination preparation courses provide college credit or continuing education units, thereby making them eligible for reimbursement under company tuition reimbursement or professional development reimbursement programs. If your employer offers educational benefits, make certain to determine whether or not the program will cover the cost or your preparation course.
