HR Professionals are looked to as strategic business partners in their organizations and business leaders often seek out the opinions and perspectives of their HR Professionals on a variety of topics including HR and employment related legislation. In addition, elected officials are also recognizing the value and perspective HR professionals can provide as members of the business community and are consulting with HR professionals in their districts on important issues that impact Ohio businesses. On April 21st, 2009 over 100 HR professionals from across the state met in Columbus, Ohio for the annual Ohio SHRM Legislative Conference.
These HR professionals spent the day learning about legislative, regulatory, and judicial issues that impact almost every employer in Ohio. Session topics included issues at the State and Federal level around workers compensation, the Employee Free Choice Act, paid leave, employment law, and health care.
Equipped with information, conference participants held meetings with their elected officials in the Ohio House and Senate on the issues that impacted their employers and had the potential to reshape the business climate in Ohio.
