Welcome to spring 2010 and thank you in advance for being an Ohio Workforce Readiness Advocate. If you are reading this page, you have already committed to action on an HR based WR related project - or are looking for ideas on how to become involved. Let the Ohio SHRM State Council help you by sharing some WR ideas from chapters across the state.
On a statewide basis we are continuing to partner with the ESGR on military and veterans based WR programming. You can contact the ESGR directly at www.ESGR,org. We are also hoping to see their team at the 2010 State Conference in September at the Kalahari Resort as a resource partner.
On a chapter wide basis, here are examples from the Cleveland and Akron chapters on best practices in WR.
Lauren Rudman and the Cleveland chapter are working on a program entitled:
Return to Civilian Life: What every employer needs to know when military personnel return to work. You can find out more by checking out the following link. http://guest.cvent.com/EVENTS/Info/Summary.aspx?e=37aec78d-a367-4a36-a5a8-2d299d739929
Linda Wilkins and the Akron chapter have been very active with both the Summit Medina Workforce Event on March 25 and strengthening their relationship with Junior Achievement by having over 40 members teach at the JA Success Skills program in local schools. For more information contact Linda directly at: lwilkins@kwwlaborlaw.com
My spring challenge to individual SHRM chapters is to develop a WR mission-driven chapter program that will increase your partnership with a locally based community resource. I am asking every chapter to implement this by September 1, 2010.
As always, I am here to lend advice, experience and a helping hand where needed. Feel free to use me as a resource tool when building your chapter initiatives and programs.
Thank you again for your interest in WR. I am looking forward to working with YOU.
